Hey! I’m Allison.

I'm a writer and storyteller in love with creating distinct character voices, worldbuilding through found documents, experimenting with transmedia forms, and all things spooky, mythic, and meaningful.

I received my MFA in Creative Writing from NCSU in 2020 and won the North Carolina State Prize for Fiction that same year. With three years as a professional editor and proofreader for Cambridge Proofreading and the honor of working with hundreds of adult creative writers as an instructor for Raleigh’s Redbud Writing, I am well-equipped to quickly identify storytelling pitfalls and writing errors as a versatile and detail-oriented collaborator.

Since late 2021, I’ve been a part of The Blackheart Collective, writing for short-term text-based immersive roleplaying and alternate reality games (ARGs) with a small creative team, and in 2023, I became an IGDA-F Velocity grantee as I made the decision to transition into games work professionally. My experience includes branching gameplay, narration, scriptwriting for live and recorded performances, the creation of various multimedia texts, puzzle refinement, and narrative design. You’ll find some examples below.

And finally…

Before I wrote interactive fiction and ARGs, I was an avid player and participant. While these were not for video games, professionally reviewing different creations gave me skills to evaluate user experience and craft narratives with that perspective in mind. To learn more about what I keep in mind, you can read some of my reviews herehere, and here.

I am very proud of my literary writing, my publications, and having won the 2020 North Carolina Prize for Fiction. If you are interested in reading complete stories or essays, a more casual--or, conversely, more lyrical--voice, or simply to learn more about how my past writing has looked, you can find a list of selected works and awards here.

Imagine the universe beautiful and just and perfect. Then be sure of one thing: The Is has imagined it quite a bit better than you have. The original sin is to limit the Is. Don’t. - Illusions; ****Richard Bach
